Enico Oy Trusts NSC EnergyOpti Oy's Services – Jointly Optimized Battery Energy Storage Portfolio Exceeds 30 MWh
Finnish energy companies NSC EnergyOpti Oy and Enico Oy have expanded their strategic partnership. Through their collaboration, the battery energy storage portfolio optimized and operated across electricity markets will increase to 15 MW and 31.5 MWh, creating a substantial commercially optimized battery energy storage portfolio in Finland.
Revenue Generation for Battery Energy Storage Is Becoming More Diversified
The revenue model for battery energy storage systems has evolved rapidly. While revenues were previously generated primarily from ancillary service markets, today they increasingly come from a combination of multiple electricity markets. At the same time, growing volatility in the spot and intraday markets has made fast and intelligent optimization more important than ever.
When a single battery energy storage system can participate in multiple markets simultaneously, both its utilization rate and revenue potential increase significantly. Competitive advantage will increasingly be driven by multi-market expertise—the ability to continuously optimize battery operations in a rapidly changing market environment.
A Growing Portfolio Requires Advanced Optimization
According to NSC EnergyOpti CEO Jarkko Avikainen, the collaboration with Enico has evolved from individual projects into a strategic partnership.
"The collaboration, which began in early 2024, has grown rapidly. Today we optimize a portfolio of 15 MW and 31.5 MWh. Managing a portfolio of this scale enables us to develop our optimization capabilities at an entirely different level compared to optimizing individual assets."
"The larger the portfolio, the deeper our understanding of electricity markets and battery behavior under different operating conditions becomes. This continuously strengthens our optimization capabilities and improves our ability to anticipate market changes, ultimately delivering higher returns for our customers."
Multi-Market Expertise Drives Higher Returns and Creates Competitive Advantage
According to Enico's Sales and Business Development Director, Topias Koskela, battery energy storage technology is evolving toward longer-duration systems.
"Investments in battery energy storage are increasing both in number and capacity. The market is shifting toward three- to four-hour battery systems, whose full value can only be realized through increasingly sophisticated multi-market optimization. Our collaboration continuously deepens our understanding of electricity market developments, and we are able to apply this expertise to Enico's own energy management services for the benefit of our customers."
The partnership between Enico and NSC EnergyOpti is built on strong expertise and mutual trust. Enico relies on NSC EnergyOpti's multi-market optimization capabilities, while the close collaboration enables both companies to continuously develop their services and operating models. The shared goal is to maximize the value and returns of customers' battery energy storage assets in rapidly evolving electricity markets.
